Riga, the capital of Latvia, is on the southern shore of the Baltic Sea. Estonia is to the north, Lithuania to the south and Russia is East. No visa needed, so off we went for a four night city break.

We stayed at the reasonably priced Viktorija Hotel which was outside of the Old Town and not too far from the Bus and Central Railway Station. We got bus no. 22 from the airport into the city which was cheap and convenient. We walked to all of the sights that we visited in Riga and did not need to use any other forms of public transport.
On our first night we saw Placebo live at Arena Riga which is like a half size O2 Arena. It was a great gig, the acoustics and the view were superb [unlike the O2]. The hardest part was finding the venue as we managed to get a bit lost. Buying the ticket in advance on the internet using Google translate was also a bit of a challenge but not insurmountable.
