From Carcassone to Figeac

Day 24-Carcassonne

The Citadel- The Chjateua and Ramparts, St Nazaire Church

A nap by the grass by the walls

Then dinner near ouyr accomodatuion- a simple 3 course meal at Le Vintage. Nothing special, but pleasant.

Day 25-Carcassone and a trip Chateaux de Lastours

We drove to the Cathar Castles [ Lastours], stopping at The Canal du Midi on the way.

The Chateaux was 4 small castles near each other – loads of steps! Hard work but wonderful, and a picnic!

We stopped for a drink and an ice cream on the way back to the car.

Then went to the Belvedere for the view of the castles.

Back at Carcassone we went back into the citadel for a decent dinner at Le Menestra and saw gthe Citadel lit up as we left for home.

Day 26 To Cahors

We went on toll roads today to get to Cahors.

Our home was central and roomy. After a simple cafe lunch we went to the famous bridge- Pont Valente.

The amazing clock.

The Secret Gardens- a bit disappointing!

Cahors a bit run down and unloved- druggies injecting near St Barthelemy Church!

The Palais and Barbacane Gate. Lots of dog shit.

An acceptable dinner at Le Bistro de L’isa.

Day 27 Cahors and a trip to some Bastide Towns

Montpazier– A stunning Bastide town. We bought a picnic lunmch and also wine to take home.

The museum was sadly closed. But we enjoyed mooching around the village.

Montflanquin– Another Bastide town, on top of a hill.

We had our opicnic here near the church with great views.

Puy L’Eveque -On a hillside by bthe river Lot.

Back in Cahors– Not alot of choice of places to eat but we had a mooch and dinner at Le Clemenceau.

Day 28 Cahors and Peche Merle Cave

Peche Merle Cave-More wonderful prehistoicv drawings, and lovely stalagmites…

Picnic afterwards on a bench avoiiding the swinging silkworms.

Sarlat- A brief stop at a lovely hill town.

Dinner was an Uber pizza from Cahors Pizza [very good].

Day 29 To Figeac via St Cirq Lapopie

St Cirq Lapopie was lovely, by the lot on a hill.

Picnic overlooking the town in the ruined Chateau before we had a mooch to the river and back.

Figeac

Our guest house was in a 15th century building and was lovely as well as central.

Figeac had lovely old buildings and squares. Al Fresco drinky at Le Sphinx and a wander.

Then we returned to Le Sphinx for dinner. Big row in the street kept us awake at bedtime!

Day 30 Figeac, Rocamodour and a sinkhole.

Rocamadour– A lovely drive to get there.

Parking at the top and then we paid to wander the ramparts of the chateau.

We then wandered down to the Capelle Notre- Dame and had our picnic on the way down.

We took the long way round back to our car to take in the views of Rocamodour.Then had a rest at the cafe.

Gouffre de Padirac – More than just a sinkhole! It’s huge and had underground caverns and a river.

We had a tour booked and we loved it.

Back in Figeac we had dinner at Le Seth.We went for a wander by the river as it got dark.
