We walked to the terminal from Hietalahti Market Hall as we had not bought a tram ticket in advance and you cannot buy one on the tram itself. The ship was modern, clean with cafes, bars and an excellent live band which was a surprise. The journey took around three and half hours. We booked in advance and used Eckero Line.
I was really looking forward to this journey, not beacause I wanted to get away from Helsinki but because I had never sailed through a frozen sea before. [Actually by then this was not true as we went by boat to Suomenlinna Fortress].
I was not disappointed, the views were breathtaking, so was the cold- it was hard to stay outside on the ship taking photos as my fingers hurt so much they fell off!
