Before heading off to Helsinki I did my usual research into places to eat. The majority of restaurants were astonishingly expensive by our standards. I did unearth a couple of restaurants that seemed more affordable and they had good reviews on Tripadvisor. Finnish food means plenty of fish, meat, vegetables and pickled things, I liked it all.

Konstan Molja

We had a yummy meal here. It was buffet style which I do not usually like but it worked well and there were plenty of food choices. It cost 19 Euros each in 2018 but a quick peek at their website indicates the prices have increased.

Cella.

We also had a lovely meal in Cella which was in the back room of a pub. Not as cheap as Konstan Molja but worth every penny.

The Old Market Hall on Market Square is worth popping in for a browse or lunch. It is beautifully laid out inside with plenty of varied stalls selling local produce. I bought what I thought was a donut but it was in fact stuffed with meat.

Hietalahti Market Hall. We grabbed a lunch here on the way to the ferry terminal before getting the boat to Tallinn. It was difficult to find, but find it we did which was great as we were starving.
