Christina from Tsarbou Guesthouse in Stemnitsa told us about a lovely forest mountain road that would take us North East from Lousios Gorge past Elati and Vytina where we could then head off to to Levidi. To get there you need to take the road that branches off just south of Stemnitsa.
The forest road was a delight and takes you past a multitude of colourful beehives and through a conifer forest more akin to a Northern European landscape. The views were incredible and despite it being mid summer snow was still visible on the mountain tops. We hardly saw any traffic, but we did stop to say hello to a lonely tortoise and some friendly donkeys.
