If you have made it this far south you have done well and probably need to stretch your legs. Approaching from the north you can see Vathia from the road for some time. An almost [but not quite] abandoned village mainly comprised of the tower houses that you would have seen dotted around the Mani.
You will feel compelled to stop and take photos as you approach and then if you are continuing south you will probably stop to take pictures from a different perspective.
Park up by the main road, enter the town and step back in time [ignoring the satellite dishes]. It’ s a bit of a scramble at times but a fascinating wander through old passageways and crumbling buildings. There are some lovely views of the coast too.
