A couple of years ago Leashia and I decided that we should drive to the Peloponnese from our home in Worthing [England]. This was partly inspired by Majory McGinn’s books and I thought if she can drive there from England with a bonkers dog we should do it too [minus the dog]. The main difference being that we wanted to take our time to get to our final destination so we can see some sights in Italy and Greece. We also thought we would return slowly to take in more sights. The planning has been complicatified and I have a page dedicated to the Planning and Practicalities of this road trip in case anyone else wants to follow in our footsteps and they can perhaps learn from our mistakes as well as successes. I will of course also document on my website places of interest that we visited with info, tips and photos.

So, in a nutshell- [deep breath].….

Stage 1 Newhaven to the North Peloponnese.

We plan to get the ferry from Newhaven to Dieppe and bomb through France fairly quickly, slowing when we reach Italy and heading down the western coast [this will take around take two weeks]. We will then turn east to get the ferry from Bari to Patras in the Peloponnese, Greece.

Stage 2 From Patras to Stoupa-The Peloponnese bit

We will then spend a few days exploring the North Peloponnese before we relax for a month in Stoupa.

Stage 3 From Stoupa to Igoumenitsa

For the home journey we will head north via Delphi and Meteora in Greece and get the ferry from Igoumenitsa to Brindisi on the east coast of Italy.

Stage 4 From Lecce up the east coast of Italy, through the Black Forest and home

We will then drive up the eastern side of Italy clipping Switzerland and then through the Black Forest in Germany before hacking it through France to get the ferry Dunkirk to Dover. Phew!
