Floating display, Tête d’Or Park

Leashia and I absolutely loved this festival, the rain and the crowds did not dampen our spirits. There were plenty of vendors selling home made Vin Chaud [mulled wine] to warm up yer cockles!

La Fête des Lumières began in the 1850’s as a candlelit homage to the Virgin Mary. It occurs around the 8th December each year and Lyon comes alive for four nights with amazing sound and light displays across the city. There is also a religious procession on the friday evening from the Cathedral to the Basilica. For more information check out the Fête des Lumières website HERE.

Due to the huge crowds there are many road closures and pedestrians have to take certain routes to get from A to B but the displays are on a loop and you won’t miss anything. We had to queue for about an hour to get into Tête d’Or Park to watch the displays there but it was worth it.

Perhaps my favritist display was Cellulo/d at the Place de Terreaux which celebrated the Lumière brothers, see below.

Another wonderful display was Ceux du fleuve on the bank of the Saône. You can hear the water lapping my feet in the video below.
