My website is a personal reflection of experiences. If you want a more balanced read I would recommend the superb Bradt Guide – Greece: The Peloponnese which in my opinion remains the best [and only standalone] detailed guide to the area. Edition 4 is now out with subtle but helpful additions and improvements.

Marjory McGinn has written several books and novels about the Peloponnese. Her books focus mostly on the Mani and are a great read. Marjory also has a blog which is a good source of info about the area.

Blue Skies and Black Olives by John and Christopher Humphrys is laugh out loud funny and documents the trials and tribulations of buying a house in The Peloponnese.

If you are interested in the Mani region of the Peloponnese there is of course the classic Mani: Travels in the Southern Peloponnese by Patrick Leigh Fermor which is still available in paperback. It’s a bit heavy at times- Patrick does like to make very long lists of well, lots of things but it does have its lighter moments.

The Inside the Mani guide book is still an invaluable resource even though it’s getting a bit long in the tooth now. I managed to grab a copy in Kardamyli for just a couple of euros.

A Foodie’s Guide to the Mani by Nicola Cairncross was published in Autumn 2023. It has loads of info on food and places to eat in the Mani [there’s loads of info on Stoupa]. If you get the Kindle version it will be regularly updated. My website even gets a wee mention! Nicola also runs the Stoupa Life Facebook group which is a great place to banter and pick up tips. You may even come accross some Grunty witterings !
