Just off the main road to Ancient Nemea and Ancient Mycenae is the Dervenakia Pass. It was the site of a huge battle that was fought in 1822 between the Greeks under the command of general Kolokotronis and the Ottomans.

The Greeks thrashed the Ottomans and there is a grand statue there today of Kolokotronis overlooking the the plain which is a perfect picnic spot. The views over the plain below are a bit nice!
