Day 31 To Le Puy via Conques
A hilly drive to Conques. A hill town with an Abbey, with a stunning treasury.
We bought lunch at a bakery and had a picnic on the way to Le Puy. The drive there was loevly.
Le Puy-
Central accomodation but small.
We had a wander. The Cathedral.
The Big red statue, Notre dame de France.
A drinky at Place du Plot. A great dinner at Merry and Pippin!
Day 32 To Bourges
Grabbed lunch in Le Puy from a bakery.
It was a long drive to Bourges.
Bourges
Our accom was roomy.
A wander- incredible cathedral. [ Stained glass windows!]
Nealy everywhere was closed as it was a sunday.
Lovely pasta al fresco at La Scaletta [ despite the indifferent reviews and pale looking pizza’s]
Day 33 Bourges and a trip to Sancerre
Sancerre
La Maison des Sancerre was great- a a wine tasting, Leashia loved the whoite and the red!
Al fresco lunch at Cafe des Arts.
Back in Bourges–
A mooch, The Cathedral Crypt [a tour in French with an unhelpful guide]. No info in English- gah.
For dinner we bought a pizza from Nawab and had it at home.
Day 34 To Chartres via Chateau Chambourd
Chateau Chambourd- We just visited the gardens but loved the walk around the whole chateau. [ Its huuge].
Chartres
No wifi [ late change in accomodation!].
We had a wander and gawped at the Cathedral.
A decent but mild curry dinner at Le Mughal.
Day 35 Chartres
Found wifi to work in McDonalds!
Lunch was a galette [ for me] crepe [ for Leashia] at La Piloterie.
Then went to see the Cathedral properly which was simnpl;y incredible. The crypt tour was again all in French but still interesting.
St Aignan and St Pierre Churches
Drinky at LCafe du generaql.
Great dinner at L’Annexe Brasser4ie.
Then we went watching the illuminatuioins on the buidings-Like Lyon but with no crowds!
