Situated near to Neda Gorge but seemingly in the middle of nowhere is the magnificent Temple of Apollo Epikorios. Its setting, like many ancient Greek sites, is remote and dramatic. It was built in the 5th century BC and was only rediscovered in the 18th century. It’s quite staggering when one realises that this site had been forgotten for 1700 years!

The size of some of the Doric pillars are absolutely enormous. The main body of the temple is currently covered by a huge protective canopy to protect it from the elements, hopefully only a temporary situation. Sadly many artefacts from the site were removed by the British and now reside at the British Museum in London.

Surrounding the Temple and scattered over a large area are the remains of ancient buildings. It’s a lovely spot for a picnic. There’s no cafe here but there are toilets.
