Achaea is the northernmost region of the Peloponnese and much of it is off the tourist trail. There are several places worthy of a visit though including ancient ruins and scenic mountain roads, the mountain town of Kalavryta where you can take a trip through a stunning gorge by train and the spectacular Cave of the Lakes. The capital of the region is Patras, a ferry port which is the largest city in the Peloponnese, the third largest in Greece and houses a large student population.
