Polilimnio are undoubtably the best known waterfalls in Messinia and probably the Peloponnese but are no longer a hidden secret. There’s a couple more waterfalls worth seeking out, one much better than the other. Let’s start with the best one first….
Kalamaris Waterfall.

Just a ten minute drive east of Gialova is Kalamaris waterfall. It’s easy to miss the signposts but it does appear on Google maps. It’s an absolute delight, akin to a mini Polilimnio [but without the crowds] with a cold plunge pool where you can have a refreshing dip. It’s about a ten minute walk through the woods from where you park your car. The path is a bit dodgy and steep at times. The waterfall dries up completely in the summer months but on our visit in May it was pretty impressive.

Stenosia Waterfall

Stenosia Waterfall is another twenty minutes drive to the east from Kalamaris but its not a direct route. You can find it on Google Maps and it’s right next to the main road. When we got there it was a bit of a disappointment as the foliage hid the falls although they could be heard clearly. The area – the picnic benches and the wooden bridges had all seen better days which was a shame.
