Wow, we ate really well in Cape Town! The food was incredible and the service always attentive. Below are the establishments that we visited and were recommended to us. I would advise booking online in advance if you want to guarantee a table for most of them.

Bobo’s Brasserie

My daughter Leora recommendified here. Bobo’s is owned by the same peepses that own The Bungalow [see below]. It’s a lovely restaurant on Mouille Point [to the left of the Waterfront] with a prime location overlooking the sea. As we were here for dinner we didn’t get the view but we did get a lovely meal.

Hussar Grill

Hussar Grill is an established popular chain. We visited two of them, one in Camps Bay and the other in Rondebosch which is one of the oldest steak houses in town. They were both amazing! Expect lots of meat, but they do also serve seafood, salads and a couple of veggie options. Thanks Alex for this recommendation!

Kloof Street House

Jojo, my new son-in-law recommended this one. It’s a bit special so we saved our visit for our last night and were not disappointified. The building is a grand Victorian House and the gardens are lovely. The waiters have to be quite nimble! The food is incredible. It gets busy so book well in advance.

Utopia

Another one recommended by Jojo. It’s a roof top restaurant between Bo-Kaap and the Waterfront. We went here early in the evening in order to catch the sunset and the views which were lovely [see above]. The food and service was wonderful too.

Forries [The Foreseters Arms]

Forries is a well known Cape Town institution. It’s nestled on the edge of Newlands Forest. Its a gastro pub/sports bar that serves great food including tapas, burgers, pizza’s and lots more. This is where I tried [and very much enjoyed] pizza with bacon and avocado.

Spur

Another well known South Africa chain [who also own Hussar Grill] is Spur which serves good food and hearty portions. It is well priced and aimed at families and students. We visited Santa Ana which is inside Victoria Wharf on the Waterfront and left feeling completely stuffed! We just walked in with no booking and a table was found for us.

The Bungalow

Situated on Clifton Beach, near Camps Bay to the south of the city. The Bungalow is a great place to watch the sea and the sunset, although we arrived too late for that! Another wonderful meal and evening was had!

Cabo Beach

A beach bar playing mellow music by day on an arm of the Waterfront with a pool. I suspect it livens up a bit at night but it was the perfect tranquil setting for lunch watching the seals frolicking in the sea. The food and drinkies were very good indeed.

Den Anker

Den Anker has a prime location on the V&A Waterfront with wonderful views of table mountain and of expensive boats moored in the harbour. There a good choice of seafood and meats on the menu, we only stopped here for a coffee but the menu looked tempting.

Time Out Market [Foodhall]

This foodhall is on the Waterfront not far from the Watershed and the Two Oceans Aquarium. There’s a large range of different cuisine on offer. We went for lunch and I opted for the Cape Malay spicy chicken which was very yummy washed down with a cool pint of lager. You get buzzed on a magic thingy when your food is ready. There’s seating inside and out.
